5 Healthy Foods That Calm & De-Stress

Sometimes after a long day it's nice to unwind and de-stress with food. Try eating or drinking something with health benefits rather  than resorting to something greasy that will leave you unsatisfied and with an upset stomach. The following is a list of 5 foods that can help calm and de-stress. Bon appétit!
 

 

 

1. Green Tea

Green tea is full of benefits. Green tea contains less caffeine than coffee, but enough to produce an effect. It also contains the amino acid L-theanine, which can work synergistically with caffeine to improve brain function.

 

 

 2. Dark Chocolate 

 Sometimes you can't kick that chocolate craving, so replace your milk chocolate with dark chocolate! When eaten in a small quantity dark chocolate can benefit your health. It has antioxidants called flavanoids which are known to relax you. Look for chocolate with a cocoa content of 70% or more.

 

 

 

3. Oatmeal 

Oatmeal is a great way to start  out a long day. Because oatmeal is a grain with high fiber it takes longer to digest, so it will kick start serotonin production in your brain and slowly release serotonin throughout the day. A bowl of oatmeal can help keep you calm all day. 

 

 

 

 

4. Berries 

Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and most berries are full of calcium and are known to help combat stress. Try eating a handful of berries, frozen berries, or add them to a salad or yogurt. 

 

 

 

 

5. Milk 

A glass of warm milk before bed can help your body relax and ensure a good nights rest. Milk is filled with antioxidants, vitamins (B12), protein, and calcium. It has a protein called lactium which can lower blood pressure and the potassium in milk can help prevent muscle spasms.
